Had a Big Birthday Ride Planned – My Moto Guzzi Had Other Ideas

/ 10:08

This was supposed to be Part 2 of my review of my 2027 Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel. But guess what… It’s back in the shop. Last Sunday while out riding, trying to self-diagnose an awful sound in my engine, a message came across the dash – “ALARM SERVICE.” That turned out to be a warning about my tail lights and brake lights not working. Lovely. The bike’s been sitting at the shop for five days now with no word at all on when I’ll get it back. This is my birthday weekend. The plan was to ride the V85, engine noise be damned, on a 1,000-mile Iron Butt Challenge, and then slow-journey my way home. What a lovely birthday this would have been. But again, a Moto Guzzi has foiled my big plans. Maybe it’s for the best. Who knows how it would have gone. Anyway, as usual, my Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 continues to chug along, which is why I’m out filming on it today. Not exactly the birthday weekend I had in mind. I would have taken it on the adventure, but I still haven’t gotten around to doing its much-needed maintenance post cross-country trip. There's some other stuff in this video too: what I've decided to do with the Himalayan (spoiler — I'm keeping it, and I've got a slightly unhinged idea for it), where the V85TT saga goes from here, and one deer in the proverbial headlight.
